Women: the ultimate multitaskers. Taking on more than one job at a time, one after another is within our nature. It’s something that we do without a second thought (even if it is online shopping whilst getting through a whole bottle of wine). Being busy and hardworking is a positive trait to have and it makes us feel empowered.

multitasking

Going the extra mile is always good, it shows passion and enthusiasm, something that everybody will recognise and respect. It’s rewarding being the person that everybody looks at and thinks, “how does she do it?” Taking on challenges is good practice, it keeps you on your feet and prepares you for trying times you may face. If every day is a hectic day for you, you can pretty much tackle anything.

Standing out is all well and good, but how do we know when enough is enough? The truth is, we don’t. Nothing is ever enough for us, we always want to exceed ourselves and give ourselves new personal challenges. If you have an assiduous personality you will feel obliged to say yes to absolutely anything, even if it’s next to impossible. We will push ourselves to our limits before giving up and realising it’s too much. We convince ourselves that resting is for the weakhearted, right?

resting

The answer to my following question is absolutely not. Resting is essential for everyone as doing too much can drive us to insanity. Sometimes we need to stop and consider whether we are overdoing things and taking on too much. It’s unhealthy for a person to be constantly working hard and being rushed off their feet. A time to sit down, breathe, and chill out is the most important thing. Time to gather your thoughts, relax your mind.

So how do we know when we are doing too much? I think it really depends on the individual, everybody knows their own personal limit, the limit to which you can no longer go on, you are ultimately exhausted. All we need to remember is that everybody needs time in their day to relax somewhat and consider the fact that it’s okay to say no sometimes.

About the author

After securing a place at Bournemouth University last summer, Kayleigh is currently a fresher studying Multimedia Journalism. Since starting the course she has been a keen member of the radio team, hosting a show fortnightly. When not in the radio studio or lost in a pile of books, Kayleigh wastes her days watching reality show after reality show (TOWIE being a particular favourite), as well as attending a variety of music festivals with her friends. She also enjoys traveling (and soaking up the sun), having gone on four separate holidays last year!
