Insecurities – we’ve all got them. Whether it be flaws that we think we possess or negative opinions that we worry others might have about us. Insecurities can be awfully frustrating and can interfere with our day to day lives. It’s not realistic to expect people to simply ignore these insecurities, but we should all make a conscious effort to ridicule a person’s insecurities.
Insecurity is feeling a lack of confidence and an abundance of self doubt, but what we need to remember is that feeling this was is completely normal. But what isn’t normal is the shaming, bullying and malicious content more often than not found on social media. Hiding behind a keyboard it’s easy ignore the implications, often not giving a thought to the vulnerable person on the receiving end of such vicious comments. And sadly such awful atrocities aren’t exclusive to the internet, but every where in modern life.
Sometimes we can make a comment about another person’s appearance and unknowingly hurting their feelings by hitting the nerve of a personal insecurity. Or some things we may see as just having a laugh with our friend may actually have a much deeper meaning to that person. People often laugh with you to hide the fact that they are offended, but this is something we should really be aware of.
Whilst innocent mistakes may often be made perhaps it’s time we wise up, think before we speak and put ourselves in others shoes because some things are better left unsaid.
