Summer has finally arrived and, let’s face it, the last place you want to be when the weather is nice is stuck in an office. But we all have bills to pay so here at Semple we have put together our guide to making it through those muggy days when you are working 9 to 5!

Stay hydrated and refresh

Okay so this one might seem obvious but if you are in and out of meetings all day and running around the city it’s not always that easy. Invest in a reusable bottle that you can carry with you and that is kinder to the environment too! A refreshing cooling spray can also be a lifesaver after a nightmarish journey on the tube.

Always carry protection

Living in Britain it’s easy to get out of the habit of carrying suncream but as the weather heats up it’s a good idea to keep some in your bag. You never know when that working lunch might get taken outside, leaving you red-faced by the end of the meeting. Consider changing your foundation or moisturiser to one that contains SPF too.

Reclaim your lunch break

If you are normally tied to your desk all day, use the warm weather as an excuse to get out of the office for an hour. Go for a walk in the sunshine, or grab some work friends and find a beer garden for a pub lunch. It will be a welcome break and will help you avoid feeling like you are missing out on the sunshine. Don’t forget that the long evenings also mean we don’t have to miss out so find things to do after work – there will be plenty of time to catch up on Netflix when the weather turns.

Wear layers

Office wear can be tricky when it’s so hot all you want to wear is a bikini, but unless you work as a lifeguard the likelihood is that you are going to have to cover up. Wear light, loose layers so you meet any dress codes needed for meetings, or if you are lucky enough to have an air conditioned office, and then shed the layers when you get back out into the sun.  Also ditch the heels, if you’re hot and bothered you don’t need sore feet too! This season’s flatforms can give you the height you need and the fashion kudos without the sore toes.

  Enjoy it!

We Brits have a tendency to never be happy with the weather and no sooner than it warms up we start complaining. Try to embrace the nice weather for as long as it lasts or we’ll regret it once we are back in heavy knitwear again!
