I sometimes feel like life is completely passing me by and the older I get the quicker time is racing with me. It only seems like a few moments ago that I was leaving school, and now here I am a decade later an adult! How the hell did that happen? I know I’m not alone in this, as it’s a regular occurrence that friends will text or email with comments like “where has that month gone?” and “I can’t believe we’re in September”. The truth is I just need to stop and enjoy life, and I think we’re all guilty of not living in this way and being grateful for where we are and what we have in our lives.

Since the recent atrocities that have been hitting the news I came to the realisation that I’m very lucky for the life I get to lead and the people that share it with me, because there are some people out there who don’t even have half of the things that we often take for granted. So many of us are always searching for happiness or the meaning of life, but rather than trying to predict what’s going to happen next or wish for more, we should just be grateful for what we have in the first place.

It’s easy to want more thanks to the open world we live in, where you can so easily see the way that others lead their lives and believe that your life is so dull in comparison, but it’s not. I recently discovered the Gratitude Journal app which has completely changed the way that I think about life and how I feel about my precious time. It’s probably the best £1.29 I’ve ever spent, because let’s face it, you can’t buy much for £1.29 these days, but it appears I’ve bought happiness.

All you have to do is jot down things that make you happy, or that you’re grateful for, and by doing this simple activity on a daily basis it’s rewired my brain to think more positively and embrace my day. Rather than focusing on the mundane daily habits, I now try to relish in my day and do things that make me happy. Even if that does include eating a few too many Macaroons!

Of course as well as entering your daily notes of gratitude it also puts an instant smile on your face by sending you cute little messages during the day, the best one for me so far, ‘You’re an eagle and your wings are made of awesome’, now you don’t get told that everyday! If you’re also rather fond of inspirational quotes it’s brimming with these too, as each day it provides you with a quote to give you that little kick up the butt to go out and grab life with both hands.

Since using this App I feel like I’m finally seeing the fun and beauty in life rather than being another drone slumped over my phone scrolling through a Facebook timeline looking at everyone else’s life. I’m living life and making memories. We have so much to be grateful for, and the whole world is out there ready for us to explore and discover so whether you’re feeling a little down in the dumps or need a pick me up, I’m totally obsessed with this idea, and think that we could all do with this mini Buddha in our pockets.
