time for change

“There are no happy endings; endings are the saddest part. So just give me a happy middle, and a very happy start.” – Shel Silverstein

In life there are times when we have to say goodbye to people and places, and for the most part it’s a bittersweet send off. Memories have been made that will last a lifetime but change is inevitable. Whether that’s leaving your job for another or coming home after your world travels; you’re excited to start new or come back home, but you’re last day is also filled with a sadness you were not ready for.

new life

As humans we are not accustomed to goodbyes, we are too self-aware and the idea that life will carry on in the places and the people we have met just as it did before is something so inconceivable. We are the only living things that are burdened by time; we plan our whole lives according to it – anniversaries, deadlines and even when we should eat. Granted, time adds structure to our lives but the greatest downfall? Time will always run out.

Now this concept may seem a little doom and gloom, but stick with me as I promise that it isn’t. Time passes so that we can grow and it encourages us to do more. It’s only when we realise how little time we actually have that we are ever really determined to do something. Whether that’s spending more time with the people that we love or pushing ourselves to achieve something greater. And with summer having finally greeted us after a long winter, use it as an excuse to get up and get out! Take the time to enjoy the longer days and even if something seems to be ending just remember that new exciting things are just around the corner and greet your goodbyes with the same optimism and open mind you had at hello.
