Shabby chic is a term that defines vintage, or antique. Its accessories, from suitcases to book cases, appear to tell individual stories through wear and tear in a soft and unthreatening tone. Beautiful and elegant, shabby chic is an easy to achieve look. Here are five examples of some DIY looks you can create yourself to give your bedroom a unique and homely touch.

These candle holders will look beautiful by a window or on top of your dresser. You can make them completely unique with your own colour ribbon and special added detail. Try different shapes and sizes for a diverse look. They also make ideal inexpensive yet thoughtful gift ideas.

So simple! Grab a small plank of wood and paint a colour of your choosing and then all you have to do is choose your favourite selection of door knobs. Don’t be afraid to mix and match as this adds to the effect. Then voila, you have your very own, self made, storage place for your bags or cardigans. It looks pretty and remains practical.

You can give anything that shabby chic look with a touch of vintage looking floral paper. Maybe you have an unused stand that’s causing your eyes pain every time you see it. Maybe you have a neighbour or a friend that is about to throw away a used book case? Well with a touch of wallpaper you can bring it back to life and create even more storage for yourself at the same time.

Probably one of the simplest, yet stunning and effective ideas. Suitcases. Old, new, used, unused, it doesn’t really matter. You will find these old style suitcases at car boot sales, markets, charity shops or you may even have a family member that has a few stored away. Give them a wipe down and stack them by your bed to create the perfect, shabby chic, bedside table.
