With two seasons under their belts, Abbi and Ilana the creative minds behind Broad City are now in the midst of filming the third season; a fantastically strange show about two best friends finding their way through the ups and downs of jobs, sex and hedonism in New York City.
Abbi and Ilana portray the intensified versions of themselves and these real life best friends are not ashamed to explore some of their more embarrassing life experiences, drawing inspiration from these for the show. Struggling to make it big on the comedy scene, Abbi and Ilana met at an improvisational comedy group and hit it off straight away, quickly becoming the duo we love today. Later in 2010 they started their own web series on YouTube which became so popular that comedy Queen Amy Poehler soon caught wind and decided to mentor them, now as an executive producer on their show, Amy is a constant source of encouragement for Abbi and Ilana. After their successful first season, Abbi and Ilana took the show on the road with a live tour which soon led to the investment of a second season.
I’ve never met someone who didn’t love these women and rightly so – their humour is unconventional to say the least, but their passion and power on screen is undeniable. From celebrating their birthdays and editing their bucket list, to pushing the boundaries of their food allergies and breaking into their neighbours apartment, these women perfectly represent what it’s really like to stumble through life in your 20s – juggling jobs you don’t care enough about, with parties your care too much about.
With season three of Broad City due for release in February 2016 it’s sure to be a hit with current fans and those who happen to watch it by chance, one things for sure these women have quickly become trailblazers in the comedy scene with no chance of stopping any time soon.
