Life is our biggest teacher, testing us all the time. Sometimes we pass and other times we fail miserably, but that’s when we often learn the most about who we are, what we want and (equally as important) what we don’t want. Those lessons are blessings in disguise.

Love, career, wants and needs, it can all get a bit jumbled and sometimes we just need someone to be an ear to our worries and lend some good advice. I often wonder why I don’t reach out to women with more life experience when it comes to getting advice. I mean, who is better to ask than someone who has probably made more mistakes and had more successes, shed more tears and given more hugs in times of need than the very own women in our life?girl

So I asked away. I asked a bunch of fabulous women from different backgrounds with differing lives what advice they would give to a generation of women. Here is what they said:

‘‘I might never look like a size 6 model, but I like to feel healthy. The best thing you can do is be your best self in your own skin. Take good care of your body and love it for what it is.’’ – Sandra

‘‘I think my life advice would be that life is too short to be unhappy, so grab any opportunities that come your way and live life to the full.’’ – Sarah

‘‘When love starts to hurt and you’re up at night crying, it’s time to walk away.’’ – Vanessa

‘‘Whenever you feel down or sad give yourself a challenge, it will motivate you to be passionate about something and when you achieve it the feeling is rewarding and ultimately makes you look forward to setting yourself other challenges. I did a marathon and then went on to do Tough Mudder and they helped massively, both mentally and physically. I was doing things I never thought I could.’’ – Sandra

‘‘I always say to my friends, who are on their own, that ‘every saucepan has a lid, you just haven’t found the lid that fits perfectly yet’.’’ – Donna

‘‘I never feel frightened by people in a higher position than me at work because I know they are just ordinary people. When you realise that you take away the pressure and your confidence and honesty could end up impressing them.’’ – Lisa

‘‘Take up running, I did in my mid fifties and have never looked back. Your body can do it, mind over matter, it’s free, fresh air and costs nothing.’’ – Pamela

‘‘Don’t use men to get what you want in life, get it yourself.’’ – Dawnet

‘‘One of my favourite quotes is: ‘If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything’.’’ – Judy

‘‘Never judge anyone’s child as you don’t know how yours will turn out and if you aren’t happy in a job/relationship, get the hell out of there! Happy wife….happy life! Always be honest to your loved ones. If they look great tell them, if they look like poop, tell them too.’’ – Hayley

‘‘Enjoy a little something today! In your 20s you can think and contemplate about life, family, buying a house, but now, in my late 50s I try to enjoy today, here and now!’’ – Michaela
