As the face of DAKS spring/summer campaign the ‘modfather’ himself, Paul Weller, kicked off proceedings with model daughter Leah in a sneak peak of the heritages brands latest promotional video. Dressed in a range of impeccably tailored suits, alongside 22 year old Leah showcasing a stunning black collared shirt dress in signature DAKS print, Weller proved that the film was a feast for the ears as well as the eyes as he sang his classic 1995 hit ‘You Do Something To Me’.

Marking a staggering 120 years in the business, the DAKS womenswear collection for AW14 was a luxurious celebration of  all that the quintessentially British label stands for. Fur trousers and woolen tailoring in shades of military green and maroon lent themselves beautifully to the brands iconic House Check, which adorned tote bags, guardsmen inspired fur hats and leather trench coats. Pops of metallic gold in the form of blazers and elbow length gloves elegantly represented the celebratory nature of the auspicious occasion.

According to the luxury fashion house the collection is inspired by the “contemporary woman who dresses with intelligence together with a tinge of irony and wit that accompanies elegance”. An eclectic thought process that was evident through the collections sharp lines, distinguished colour palette and anomalous headwear.

Knitwear – synonymous with the fashion house’s a/w collection – featured heavily on the catwalk in a range of creative styles, including the show stopping finale. Elegant fitted roll-necks teamed with tailored trousers and fur were displayed alongside gold speckled aran knit maxis and fisherman knit coats in neutral shades. The final gown of the collection was a true revelation, reinventing the stereotypical connotations of knitwear and the way that we wear it. Complete with a brown fur guardsmen hat and statement gold gloves, the floor length camel coloured gown was adorned with gold button detailing and a knitted waist belt, which synched in the waist creating a stunning hourglass silhouette.

The collection was heritage at its best, brimming with good old fashioned British charm and a hint of the unorthodox. Congratulations DAKS, here’s to the next 120!
