With the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in full swing, fans of world cinema were awaiting the highly anticipated release of the festival’s opening film – Cafe Society. Directed by the legendary Woody Allen the cast is headed up by familiar co-stars Kristen Stewart and Jesse Einsenberg as well as Judy Davis, Paul Schneider, Steve Carrel and Blake Lively to name but a few in this coming of age story set in the 1930s.

Running until May 22nd the Cannes schedule is packed full of thought-provoking films from a wide variety of genres, but it’s not only the film themselves that will wow audiences across the globe, but the sartorial choices of the stars that grace the red carpet.

From the rule breakers to the fail safers, here’s our favourite looks from Cannes so far…

Blake Lively

Blake looked stunning in her flowing velvet dress; a bold lip and pastel hued earrings perfectly complimented her blonde locks and sun kissed LA skin. Effortlessly beautiful and paired with none other than a classic pair of strappy Jimmy Choo’s.

Susan Sarandon

Film legend Susan Sarandon absolutely rocked the tailored look. Forever the rule breaker, she opted for flats over heels, after last year’s debacle with more female stars being turned away from the screening of Carol for wearing flat shoes. Sarandon has never shied away from taking a stand for equality and her power suit does just that! With the 25th Anniversary of Thelma & Louise this year, I think it was only fitting for Sarandon to tap into a bit of Thelma this year at Cannes.

Anna Kendrick

Shades of yellow seem to be the ‘in’ colour this season with so many stars donning this bold hue, but no one did it in a more daring shade than Anna Kendrick. Cutting an elegant shape, Kendrick looked like Disney’s Belle come to life. Her simply jewellery choices and 50s pin up hair and make-up completed the look.

Julia Roberts

Roberts stepped onto the red carpet in her gorgeous black Armani Privé gown, with a neckline that mirrors that of her dress in cult classic Pretty Woman. Looking gorgeous with her flowing tousled locks and emerald necklace Roberts quickly discarded of her heels in an act of rebellion against the strict dress code for women, yet swiftly replaced them as she took to the steps leading to the premiere of Money Monster which she stars alongside George Clooney and Jack O’Connell.
