Often when scrolling through social media or browsing the internet I come across insulting comments aimed at women who choose to wear a lot of makeup. Insinuating that these women are supposedly misleading others by masking their ‘real’ face, or trying too hard to look like somebody they are not. Women are being made to feel guilty for making use of products that are invented to perfect beauty.
What many people fail to comprehend is that we live in a society where looking good makes you more socially accepted. Women wear makeup to boost their confidence or hide their imperfections – sadly because if we did not we may well be judged. If we didn’t feel as though we had to look a certain way to fit in then its unlikely that the obsession with makeup in the modern day would be so extreme.
Women should never be made to feel guilty for trying to enhance their natural beauty. Makeup doesn’t completely transform the face, with most of us using it to hide a few imperfections; imperfections that wouldn’t be a problem perhaps if we weren’t a nation obsessed with appearance.
To some people makeup is merely a tool used to make oneself look that tiny bit more beautiful, however others use it as a mask to hide what is underneath. People may argue that makeup is ruining females, but perhaps its time to look at the situation from a woman’s perspective. An insecure woman who’s confidence you are potentially crushing.
The sad truth is that some women don’t see their own natural beauty and if using makeup helps to boost their self esteem then who are we to judge?
