Can you believe it is November already? Us neither! Time to start preparing for the long winter ahead. Getting your winter wardrobe ready doesn’t have to cost the earth, some well picked winter accessories can update your look instantly and keep out the British chill. Here is Semple’s essential guide to your must have winter accessories.

Oversized Scarves

This season if you want to wrap up warm then you need a giant scarf to enshroud yourself in. Preferably knitted and the bigger the better! If you are not sure how big to go you should ideally be able to completely hide behind the scarf when opened fully. Wrap it around yourself to keep out the winter chill and you are good to go.  This look works perfectly with skinnies and big jumpers. Avoid Cocoon coats unless you want to look like a marshmallow.

Capes

This year the fashion crowd seem to be foregoing coats altogether and instead are bracing the winter winds in a more fashion forward cape or a cape/wrap hybrid.  This look will earn you fashion points but don’t forget long sleeves and gloves unless you want lower arm frostbite come January.

Hats

If you are not normally a hat wearer then this is the perfect year to experiment as pretty much anything goes. Follow the catwalk and go geek chic with a pom-pommed beanie hat or try something quirky like a bowler or a pork pie. If you are already an avid hat wearer, make like a Chelsea girl with a wide brimmed hat. If you do go wide brimmed, avoid wearing on windy days or you will spend half your time chasing it across the street!

Bags

What better way to update your wardrobe than with a new handbag? This season the shopper is still going strong, especially now plastic carrier bags are a big environmental no-no. A roomy tote will look great and is ideal for carrying all those new purchases.

Pom Poms

Yes the ultra kitsch accessory is making a comeback. Everything from keychains, to handbags are adorned with theses adorable balls of fluff. You might think a pom pom isn’t your thing but what better way to cheer up your winter outfit on a rainy, grey day?
