Following Royal Wedding fever – although I feel many of us are still suffering from the excitement of it all – I thought I would touch again on the not-so-trivial subject of wedding guest attire.
Although we were all waiting with baited breath to see what Meghan Markle would be wearing, there was an additional sense of eagerness to see what all the celebrities and guests would be wearing too. Thankfully, this anticipation didn’t disappoint. From the bright sunshine yellow worn by Amal Clooney, to the beautifully bold floral dress worn by Suits co-star Gina Torres and of course, James Blunt’s wife, Sofia Wellesley, who wowed onlookers in her stunning embroidered frock.
Being a wedding guest can be daunting enough as it is when it comes to the great sartorial decision-making, let alone for your outfit to be broadcast across the world on hundreds of TV channels, social media platforms and magazine features. While in my last post I focused more around the versatility of the midi-skirt, I thought I would draw attention to the more commonly worn wedding guest-dress. Naturally stores and boutiques are filled with a truly beautiful selection making it a somewhat overwhelming decision for many of us.
This topic – although seasonally very appropriate – is also rather personal. My brother is getting married later this year and so the subject of ‘what should I wear?’ is an all-too-common conversation. What my mother is wearing is perhaps more pressing though – should she wear a hat? Of course. Does she need to complement the mother of the bride? Ideally. Is it advisable to wear a jacket? Being a September wedding it’s best to be prepared. And so, the great search has commenced.
While there have been many favourable options along the way, it’s determining which one is the one. The dress that makes her feel as though the search is over. While we haven’t quite reached that conclusion just yet – there’s still time – I thought I would share a few of our favourites we’ve spotted below.
