Since the day the rumours first started, to their first public outing in 2017 attending the Invictus Games together and of course, their engagement announcement before Christmas last year; we have all been eagerly awaiting the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
What would she wear? What would the flowers look like? What would their cake flavour of choice be? Thankfully the answers to all these questions were dutifully answered on Saturday 19th May.
The name on everyone’s lips following the ceremony was Clare Waight Keller – the British designer and newly appointed first female artistic director of Givenchy who designed Meghan Markle’s wedding dress. The full-length boat neck gown in pure white was both timeless and elegant. Different in style to the dress worn by Kate Middleton at her wedding to Prince William in 2011, it is made from double-bonded silk cady and further cushioned by an underskirt in silk organza. With three-quarter length sleeves, it perfectly accentuated the bride’s waist.

The star of the show however, was the five-metre-long silk veil that trailed behind her as she entered the church which had been hand-embroidered with intricate floral detail to represent all 53 countries of the commonwealth. To hold it in place, the bride wore Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara with her hair in a simple bun at the nape of her neck. On loan from the Queen, the tiara contains a removable brooch which holds ten glistening diamonds, with further diamonds and platinum in 11 sections. Her beautiful earrings and bracelet were from Cartier, and she kept her make-up wonderfully natural.
Before the newlyweds left Windsor Castle in a Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero, Ms Markle stepped out in her evening dress: a stunning lily white, silk halter-neck dress designed by Stella McCartney and Aquazurra shoes in a silky satin with baby blue soles – said to be her ‘something blue’. The bride also wore a stunning aquamarine ring which was a gift from Prince Harry and belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana.
I think it’s fair to say she looked absolutely beautiful and although her wedding dress was unexpected and thought to be a little understated by some, it is that very fact which actually makes it so wonderfully timeless.
