Spring Wedding Style - Maggie Semple

Whilst we wouldn’t necessarily class March as a typical month in which to wed, the early months of spring and later weeks of autumn it seems, are growing more and more popular. You could argue of course, that with the uncertainty of the Great British summer, any month of the year could in fact bring glorious sunshine for the Big Day.

I have weddings on the mind it seems as 2019 is another big year of ‘I Do’s’ amongst my friends. I have three this year, with the first happening next weekend down in Cornwall.

March is such a funny month. I remember one year I was going to work with bare legs as the temperatures reached well into the 20s, while last year we were met with freezing temperatures and the notorious Beast from the East.

Dressing for wedding season then is no easy feat. You really don’t know what to expect. Seasonal temperatures with a chance of rain? Blustery winds like we’ve been experiencing over the last week? Threats of snow or unseasonably high temperatures? Will we need a coat or something lighter? Can we get away with not wearing tights?

It’s not always possible to check the weather before we plan our outfit – especially if we’re planning on buying something new in advance of the day itself. When it’s more of an unseasonal wedding then – one where the weather is more unpredictable than normal – it’s all about layers. I’m opting for a midi skirt with cropped knit jumper next weekend and a light duster coat if needed.

I always feel a light jacket or duster coat is perfect for this time of year. So, if you happen to have a spring wedding around the corner, I thought I’d include a few warmer options should the weather not quite play ball…
