The Art of Layering

layering

When the temperatures begin to drop and the last of the summer sun has said its final farewell – the warm winter coats and chunky knits become our everyday staples. Together with warm winter socks, a thermal vest or two and our favourite PJs.

While I love dressing for the colder weather, it can take a little bit of planning. A warm jumper and teddy coat – while perfect for the Christmas lights switch on or a long, blustery dog walk – are not such a practical combination for a day of shopping. If you work in an office environment, a chunky roll-neck jumper – again, although a saviour for those early morning starts – does not work quite so well in an office space with heating.

When it comes to autumn and winter, the art of layering will help to carry you through those dark mornings and colder evenings. From blanket scarfs to oversized cardigans, sequin camisoles to kimonos, I’ve selected a few of my favourite layering pieces – and how I’d wear them – for the winter months that lay ahead. What’s more, just because the temperatures have plummeted, it doesn’t mean you can’t utilise your summer wardrobe too. Tea dresses worn with tights and over-the-knee boots and pretty lace camisoles paired with plain tees both work wonders in these autumnal months, and help to ensure you’re not just reaching for your cosiest jumper at the weekends too.
