There’s afternoon tea, and then there’s afternoon tea at sketch. While the name sketch might suggest some half ditched attempt at something beautiful, the palatial pink space is anything but. The Gallery at sketch is a work of art.

We’ve all been there, sitting with your mums half sisters cousin making small talk over stale sandwiches, rock hard scones, and cakes so bad they warrant the Paul Hollywood death stare. But if your seeking an afternoon tea like no other then head to the Gallery because when it comes to quality venues, sketch is most definitely a showstopper.

Affectionately known as ‘the pink room’, the Gallery at sketch was described by a friend as like sitting in a womb, but bear with me, because the Gallery is womb like for all the right reasons I promise! The vast room is probably one of the most comforting and unthreatening spaces to inhabit. Soft spot lighting, subtly bounces off the pastel coloured walls while you tranquilly sit, ensconced in the plump velvet armchairs, completely immersed in the serene environment. And this is all before the food has even arrived at the table!

From the Alice in Wonderlandesque cups and saucers to the three tiered masterpiece of delights, each and every part of the sketch menu is beautiful, perfectly formed, and delicious. Dainty finger sandwiches boasting ingredients such as quails eggs and caviar were followed by some of the most mouth watering petit fours that I’ve had the pleasure of devouring. What’s more each tiny little bite of heaven will be replenished at your leisure by one of the attentive Gallery waitresses. With a traditional, vegetarian and vegan menu to choose from the Gallery efficiently caters to one and all with the minimum of fuss. And unlike many half baked attempts at specialised catering, the vegan menu is every bit as delicious as anything else on offer.

I cannot recommend the pink palace that is the Gallery at sketch enough. Book yourself a booth and enjoy our quintessential British past time in the most sophisticated and memorable of settings. I really could gush all day but I won’t, and don’t even get me started on the toilets…
