Rain, Rain Go Away: Stay Dry This Season

As with all change in seasons, we must learn to accept the transitional time in between autumn and winter. Although we are still welcomed with a sunny day here and there – with surprisingly warm temperatures – we are also greeted with rain and unsavoury gusts of wind.

While we may experience a downpour during the months of summer to settle the humidity, these downpours become a much more frequent occurrence in the months leading up to winter. So, the question is, aside from the obligatory umbrella, how do we dress for the rainy days? Those days when it may not necessarily be cold, or the rain may be drizzly, or we don’t anticipate being outside too much but will be walking from the train station to work?

It can be difficult, frustrating and ever so soggy, so it’s important to get it right.

Perhaps one of the biggest bugbears when it comes to rainy days, is inappropriate footwear. No one wants cold toes or wet ankles. Boots then become a wardrobe essential at this time of year. Trousers too, can pose a problem. If the rain is torrential, aside from sheltering, there is little you can do to avoid that uncomfortable feeling of damp thighs – unless your coat comes down to your knees that is.

If your walk is a long one to work or you undertake the daily school run by foot, investing in a waterproof and wonderfully warm coat is certainly essential at this time of year. From parkas to rain macs, a hood to shield you from the wind will always prove a handy addition.

Accessories really come into their own at this time of year too. Gloves, a warm scarf and a woolly hat are all autumnal essentials. They provide a wonderful way to add colour and texture too.

While it’s difficult to remain completely dry should you get caught out in the rain – unless you’re dressed head to toe in waterproofs – here are a few ways to stay stylish dry this season:
