Four Autumn Styles

When we think about fashion in the autumn months, our minds turn to cosy faux furs, rich plush velvets, traditional textured plaid and timeless soft wools. It is the season for wrapping up warm as the temperatures begin their descent and the sun decidedly sets a little bit earlier each day.

While we have been talking of a transitional time – those weeks waving goodbye to the warm months of summer and welcoming the onset of autumn – it feels, doesn’t it, as though autumn is now well and truly here. We are no longer holding our breath for an Indian summer – that boat has sailed – nor are we under any illusion that the summer evenings may perhaps return – for autumn, in all its colourful glory, has arrived.

While the weather may not excite you – dark mornings, drizzly rain and plummeting temperatures – style is often at its finest during these months. It is a season many of us look forward to, especially before the cold and dank weeks of winter arrive and you feel as though all you’re ever leaving the house in is a particularly warm coat.

From chunky knitwear then to corduroy skirts, faux fur gilets to a cosy oversized cardi – this is the season for wrapping up warm and embracing the season to come. It is the perfect time for layering, for experimenting with tactile textures and homing in on the sartorial styles you love. The weather can be temperamental though – raining one minute with the sun shining through the next, so preparation is key.

Whether you plan to spend these weekends to come enjoying brunch with friends, an autumnal afternoon walk when the weather allows, or curled up reading a book beside the fire when it doesn’t, there’s always time for a cosy Sunday pub lunch.
