March 11^th is a rather special day in the calendar this year. Mother’s Day; It’s a day that invites us to say thank you to our mothers, grandmothers and even the mother-in-law for all the help, love and guidance they have provided us with.

While, much like Valentine’s Day, we shouldn’t need a date to make us remember this, it offers an extra special opportunity to do so, and who can argue with that? Too often we become embroiled in our own lives and caught up in the 9-5 routine, that we forget to stop, look up and say thank you to them. It is only when we grow up, take on our own responsibilities or have children of our own that we realise the sheer amount of affection they have showered us with, and the many paths they have guided us down. We have, largely, become the people we are today because of them, and while no gift or action can ever really take heed of this generosity or kindness, I think it’s important to try.

It doesn’t have to be expensive, lavish or material, but rather thoughtful, endearing and selfless. Everyone likes to receive an unexpected bunch of beautiful blooms and a homemade cake using her favourite ingredients is bound to go down well, but so is company and time. A visit to her favourite garden, a stop-off for some delicious afternoon tea, a morning of shopping, a luxurious spa day or exploring a new town together, because it is these moments that really count. It is these moments you remember, that you cherish and look back on.
