Mellow Yellow: The Colour Of Summer

Venturing onto the high-street at the weekend and having a good mooch around the shops, it became clear that there was one very prominent colour set to be popular for this spring and summer. Whilst the pastel shades of blush pink, lilac, mint green and cornflower blue continue to reign, yellow has been popped on a bit of a pedestal.

From pretty blouses to embroidered tops, duster coats and jeans, and even dotted on a few accessories, I must admit I am rather drawn to this colour palette. It epitomises perfectly the sunny weather and makes a fresh, welcoming change to the monochromatic tones that often frequent the winter season.

It can be vibrant, muted, pale or bright and works wonderfully with every skin tone. The beauty of a colour so popular in the trend stakes, is the variety this brings – and from what I can see, we’re a little spoilt for choice.

If you’re a little unsure of how to incorporate this radiant shade into your wardrobe, team it with colours and textures you feel confident in. Black and yellow – despite the obvious worry of resembling a bumblebee – is a great combination, while the lighter shades of cream, white and grey will help to keep it season appropriate.

If you’re still not convinced but willing to give it a go, try implementing a little yellow through smaller accessories – a silk scarf, headband or a vibrant pair of sunnies will still give a gentle nod to the trend without the fear of going overboard.

While a key trend for this summer, yellow will always remain a popular colour for the warm sunny months as it perfectly characterises the sunshine; so by injecting and investing in a few key pieces now, you’ll be able to re-wear them for many more summers to come.
