So after having some time to come to terms with the end of The Great British Bake Off as we know it, it’s a welcome surprise that the BBC has announced that GBBO, and Mary Berry will be returning for a 2 episode Christmas special! Hallelujah!! Our bodies are SO ready.

And although the announcement of the Christmas special is sure to lift our spirits for a while there’s no doubt that we’ll soon be enduring some serious withdrawals from the show. Over the most recent couple of series GBBO has become increasingly popular; what started as an innocent baking show on the BBC in 2010, quickly became the innuendo bingo extravaganza (we’re looking at you here Mary Berry) that we love it for today!

The show resonated with a younger audience; a quick search on the internet will present multiple drinking games that you can partake in every episode – although if you actually want to watch a whole episode without passing out, we would not recommend you even entertain the idea of playing.

Star of the show, Mary Berry’s rise to stardom is a strange one, but one that is welcomed with open arms across the country. Her soft nature and classic approach to baking has earned her the title of the nation’s grandmother, who’s eyes light up at the mention of a boozy bake…what more could we ask for? A complete contrast to her co-star Paul Hollywood, Mary has stolen our hearts and the thought of another GBBO without her is just too much to bear.

Today the BBC have announced that Queen Mary will continue to reign over television – her new show Mary Berry’s Secrets from Britain’s Great Houses will see her travel to stately homes and indulge in their historic feasts, as well as creating new recipes inspired by her experiences.

Mary Berry has said she is “so excited” to be a part of the new six-part series. “I have always had an enquiring mind so I know I will be inspired by the great houses we visit.” And we Mary, will continue to be inspired by you!
