New designer on the block Mairi McDonald has turned the ordinary shades and textures of winter into extraordinary sartorial delights that we are eager to show and tell! Dark, edgy and intricate, Mairi McDonald defies tradition with her take on seasonless garments for the astute young woman.
Described as “luxury womenswear with a free-spirited feel and a rebellious edge”, Mairi McDonalds design ethic is contemporary yet classic, think the retro free spirit of 70’s Debbie Harry mixed with a hint of Alison Mosshart’s effortlessly cool approach to dressing and you’ll be on the right track. For Mairi juxtaposition is key to creating an accomplished collection of current wardrobe staples. Whether its sharp tailored lines vs. soft feminine silhouettes or lace against leather, Mairi challenges the androgynous/feminine borders in a perfect balance of “fierce & finesse”.
After graduating from the London College of Fashion, she went on to hone her skills under the tutelage of Julien MacDonald and Givenchy to name but a few. Now with debut story Electric Eclectic firmly under her belt as well as teaming up with Fashion Scout to showcase a curated exhibition at LFW, 2014 is definitely the year of Mairi McDonald.
Mairi’s fashion week exhibition saw her introduce the new edited story entitled Queens of Noise which launched as new additions to the current seasonless line and provided the young designer with the perfect platform to showcase her flair. For Fashion Scout Director, Martyn Roberts, Mairi’s potential is undeniable: “The exhibition is the place to discover the brightest new design talents with McDonalds’ delicate dishevelled knitwear lead pieces attracting attention from leading fashion industry experts this season.”
Previously championing designers such as Eudon Choi, Felder Felder and Fyodor Golan, Fashion Scout paves the way for emerging British talent. With her signature laid-back glamour and rock ‘n’ roll edge, Mairi McDonald is a self confessed free spirited dreamer, making her mark on the industry. And we for one cannot wait to see where her creative imagination will take us next.
