When asked if I’d like like to see the sights of London, whilst on a double decker bus enjoying afternoon tea, I have to admit that I had my reservations. Having visions of plates flying everywhere and cake in my hair, it’s safe to say that I didn’t go into it with an open mind, but much to my surprise my earlier concerns were soon a distant memory.

Hopping on board just a short walk from Trafalgar Square, the tour is perfectly located for tourists and Londoners alike. After a welcome greeting from one of our two tour guides we were ushered aboard the beautifully renovated vintage routemaster ready for our 12.30pm departure. Settled into the plush leather seats, the tea itself was certainly something to behold. Two tiers of blinis, quiches and cupcakes took up our table, with just enough room for dainty vintage plates – which were glued to the table (good thinking BB Bakery!) – and a sunken cup holder for our English Breakfast. After a pleasant, but thankfully brief, welcome from our hosts we were quickly on the road to the first of many London landmarks.

Covering Harrods, Hyde Park, Big Ben and more, the 90 minute (approx) tour is certainly the best way to combine two quintessential British pastimes into one great afternoon. And speaking as someone that commutes to London – seeing many of these sights on a daily basis – this is not just a tourist gimmick. I can honestly say that as well as the delicious food, the bus tour gave me the time to truly appreciate what I often take for granted.
