Having gained inspiration for around 50 new street style looks from its incredible catwalks, and soaking up its celebrity appearances, ranging from Keira Knightley and Naomi Campbell to Donna Air and Nicholas Hoult, it’s safe to say that London Fashion Week yet again exceeded expectations this time around. As a summary, I’m going to delve into three equally astonishing shows from the week.

House of Holland

The House of Holland Autumn/Winter 2016 show had a distinct vibe of the 1970s and 20s as a range of intricate prints were worn on unsurprisingly striking models. From polka dot pajamas worn with choker necklaces to sequinned mini dresses and screen prints of Liza Minnelli and Cher, contrasts were clear from the outset and throughout as the models showcased lace separates and faux fur coats highlighted against 20s styled gem fringing. House of Holland was a true success, and truly intriguing to watch.

Holly Fulton

Last year, Holly Fulton’s collection included feathered coats, sequins and a colour palette of light creams and taupes. In strong contrast, this year Holly Fulton has proved another impressive show as it exhibited scuba skirts, dungaree-styled outfits and many strapless numbers featuring in dark refined greys, blacks and khaki with a hint of pastel hues. Fulton could be declared the winner of ‘most innovative use of shearling’; this season we’ve seen countless sheepskin coats as it is, but showcased at Holly Fulton’s catwalk were many sophisticated interpretations of sheep skin with softly constructed folds around the collar, showcasing light work made of one of the toughest fabrics.

Emilia Wickstead

Red carpet favourite, Emilia Wickstead’s 2016 collection bears the antidote to elegant tailoring that has graced many a past catwalk. It is clear that Wickstead plays with a colourful palette that contributes wholly to the air of sophistication so apparent in her designs. The catwalk displayed heavy, floor sweeping fabrics and flared trousers teamed with tunic tops and circular waist cut-outs. Each design was sharp and refined with colours ranging from mustard yellow to dark raspberry. The collection embodied the strong sense of ‘Martini chic’ that we all love, and, I have to say, out of all of the shows, Emilia Wickstead’s is certainly my favourite.
