Isabel Marant

Perhaps the biggest fashion headline of the past week has been Isabel Marant being confirmed as the latest designer to collaborate with High Street favourite H&M and it’s pretty safe to say that I am not the only person who is excited about it! H&M has created a name for itself as the hottest Designer/High Street collaboration brands, having experienced previous sell-out successes with huge designers, including Versace, Lanvin and Karl Lagerfeld, to name but a few, so we can only begin to imagine how quickly French designer a-la-mode Marant’s collection will sell out on its first day.

The collection isn’t due to hit stores until November 14th, so now is the time to begin picturing what we can expect from the designer that brought us innovative fashion pieces such as the hidden-wedge sneaker. With previous H&M designer collaborations, we have seen pieces typical of the designer in charge, like Versace’s acid colours and loud prints, so it would not be unusual to expect to see Isabel Marant’s designer personality shine through in her new collection.

I for one, am hoping that we see at least a little homage to Marant’s own autumn/winter ready to wear collection that was shown at Paris Fashion Week 2013. The collection was a mix of the free spirits of the Parisian Bohemian movement and the “I’m with the band” rock chick look that would be the perfect partner to the rocker boys seen in the menswear collections for next season. The colour palette was mostly dark; black, navy and greys with an injection of sandy tones and the majority of pieces were mini, with oversized jackets only serving to make everything else look smaller.

Perfect for the autumn/winter season, the collection included beautiful layering with a hint of sexiness – thigh grazing knits that could only just pass as dresses had sneaky sheer and studded layers peeking out from underneath and there were subtle sheer peepholes at the bust of some designs. We even saw the return of the skinny scarf, only this time it had edgier, studded embellishment.

Even if the designer takes a different approach for her High Street collaboration, if her previous catwalk collection is anything to go by, I can assure you now that it will most certainly be worth camping outside the night before the launch for. Make sure you become the proud owner of at least one of Isabel Marant’s for H&M potentially stunning designer pieces at a purse friendly price.
