Speaking from someone who has now surpassed their mid-twenties, I would say it is around this time that you really start to notice the homeware sections in department stores and flicking through interior and decor magazines becomes a satisfying Sunday morning past time. In your early twenties, there is nothing more boring than duvet tog counts and furniture measurements, but in those subsequent years, something seems to click. Suddenly you’re pinning 37 images of potential bathroom suites and venturing into Urban Outfitters for the homeware department rather than to browse through the clothing.

We all dream of our perfect home – a character-filled farmhouse in the countryside is top of my list – but whether that’s an ultra-modern flat, a quaint thatched cottage or a river boat, we like the idea of putting our stamp on it and decorating it in such a way that makes it feel like home as soon as we walk through the door.

A home, for many, is where we feel at our happiest. It is a place where we will no doubt create many of our greatest memories – from summer evenings in drinking cocktails with the girls to cold dark winters snuggled beside the fire under a blanket. It is our safe haven, a place to laugh, to cry and laugh ‘til we cry.

‘The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned’ Maya Angelou

Sifting through many a beautiful store, I’ve selected a few of my favourite pieces for the home – from beautifully decadent and colourful wallpapers to pretty hand-painted bowls that are perfect for summer alfresco dining.
