So, it’s that the time of year when our Facebook pages and Twitter feeds fill up with images of other people off on their holidays. Whether you are going on holiday or not, it’s hard to avoid that spark of envy when yet another picture of a cocktail pops up against the backdrop drop of sun, sea and palm trees. Either your holiday is already over, too far away, or worse yet you aren’t even going abroad. So in order to keep that green eyed monster at bay, follow our five steps to stave off that holiday envy for good.

Go on a shopping spree

Okay, so you might not be heading off into the sunset but that doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to some new summer clothes! The sun is finally shining (shhh! Don’t scare it away) so get those pins out and make the most of the nice weather while it lasts. Who needs a Mediterranean sky when the sun is shining in blighty?

Keep busy

Don’t give yourself time to drool over their holiday snaps. Make plans for after work, host a bbq, or book to go to a festival – everyone knows UK festivals are the best! You’ll be so busy that by the time your holidaying friend gets home she’ll be envious of all the snaps you’ve posted of you out and about and having fun!

Book a staycation

You don’t have to go abroad to have a holiday, Britain has some amazing options for countryside and city breaks without the potential danger of flight delays and lost luggage. Check out our blog post from Monday, Escape to the Country, for some ideas on places to stay, or why not give glamping a go?

Take some day trips

When it’s your home it’s easy to overlook all the great things your country has to offer but we have some excellent things to do and places to visit. London has plenty to offer but the neighbouring counties also have more than enough to keep you entertained and you can be there and back in a day. Why not see what the beaches of Kent have to offer? They might not have palm trees but the seaside town of Margate was recently voted by Lonely Planet as the top destination in Europe for family holidays.

Remember, everything is not always as it seems!

It might seem like all your friends are off in far-flung locations but just remember, how much fun can they really be having if they have time to document it all on Facebook?
