Get Your Coat

I love this time of year. Now I realise this statement tends to put me in a minority as the vast majority mourn the lack of sunshine, the drop in temperature and the freedom of sundress and flip flops. Yes, I could do without the constant rain and the long dark nights but as a pale skinned girl the reality is I am not built for summer clothes. Autumn winter dressing much better suits my pasty complexion and as a lover of ankle boots, big socks, chunky knits and warm coats, this is most definitely my fashion season. Which brings me to one of the main reasons I love this time of year; the purchase of my new winter coat.

The Oversized

What better way to protect yourself against the chill than in an oversized coat? Preferably one that is slightly androgynous in style. This coat is perfect for when the temperature really drops as the larger size allows for plenty of layering over big jumpers and scarves. Get the balance right by pairing with skinnies or a pencil skirt.

The Biker

The biker jacket never really goes too far from our fashion conscious. More often than not it tends to be a neat leather version which we throw over cute dresses and provides more style than substance. This year bikers have got bigger and will keep you insulated as well as chic. Pick a longline, faux fur lined version to keep you snug until next spring.

The Parka

Is fashion’s obsession with the parka ever going to fade? Certainly not anytime soon. The throw over anything coat continues to stay strong this season and is the perfect off duty winter warmer.

If you are feeling adventurous this autumn winter then try something different with a cape coat. This ultra chic option is surprisingly wearable but make sure you have long sleeves underneath or avoid wearing in the depths of winter.

The Faux Fur

Is there anything more fun than a faux fur coat? Whether you go for chic white, bold animal print or tongue in cheek bubblegum colours, a faux fur coat is the only way to go if you don’t take yourself or your fashion too seriously.

The Gilet

Not technically a coat but well worth a mention as the gilet is having a resurgence this year. Most likely thanks to the seventies trend, the sleeveless coat will add an extra layer during those transitional months or keep you even more snug when layered up over chunky knits or slim line coats.
