Florals for spring?

Ground-breaking! This famous line from The Devil Wears Prada remains a firm favourite when it comes to discussing spring fashion and accompanying trends. The severity (and hilarity) of Miranda Priestly played by Meryl Streep epitomises the thoughts and feelings of many, no doubt, when this season rolls around and the influx of florals flutters in.

With the winter months behind us, we can finally put away those bobbled knits and our warmest winter coats, as we inevitably look forward to refreshing our wardrobe and donning more spring-appropriate attire. While considered boring or granny-ish by many, florals remain an enduring favourite in our spring/summer wardrobes. They frequent the catwalks year after year and perfectly epitomise and complement the change in seasons to come.

From big and bold to quaint and ditsy, florals continue to be popularised by some of the world’s most discernible and reputable fashion designers. Remodelled and reimagined each season, it seems to be a given that they will top the must-wear trend lists as recommended by fashion insiders and editors.

While florals will not be for everyone, their unending popularity highlights they will never go out of style. Nor do you need to invest heavily in more trend-led pieces. Reminiscent of years gone by, florals can be wonderfully nostalgic too – pretty pintuck blouses and vintage tea dresses can be regularly found in charity and thrift shops from the wistful era of Marks & Spencer or Emily Milsom.

If rooting around the charity shops doesn’t offer much appeal though, the high-street and more luxury high-end stores have showered us with perfectly fresh blooms for the season ahead too. So whether you prefer the pretty pastel shades or the brighter, bolder alternatives, there’s a little something for everyone.
