BEST OF BRITISH AT BLUEBIRD

Inspired by the fashionable flourishing’s of LFW, Tanks Magazines lifestyle, art and fashion supplement ‘O’ decided to literally bring their publication to life with a little help from The Shop at Bluebird. The stores innovative pop-up space is home to a visual timeline that commemorates the rise and rise of London’s fashion scene over the past 50 years.

Launched in 2005 The Shop at Bluebird is the perfect backdrop for the historical exhibition. The concept boutique, housed in an iconic art deco building can be found on London’s infamous Kings Road. The Shop at Bluebird is a truly awe inspiring space, selling everything from accessories, gifts and books to stunning designer women’s wear. The unique space is a nostalgic homage to the sixties and seventies; when the location was home to the thriving emergence of British fashion.

The innovative visual timeline featured over amass of mirrored walls collectively incorporates iconic visuals and capsule pieces of text. As you move around the space drinking in the historical words and iconic images, you truly feel as if you’ve been transported back to the legendary style eras of days gone by. The images personally selected by fashion supplement ‘O’ predominantly focus upon Kings Road royalty, including the opening of Mary Quant’s Bazaar in the 1950’s, through to the anti-establishment queen herself Vivienne Westwood’s SEX boutiques renaming in 1977. The exhibition covering half a century of fashion history also highlights more recent prolific tales such as Stella McCartney’s catwalk debut and also John Galliano’s graduate show. As if the inspirational fashion tales weren’t enough the timeline is also beautifully peppered with stunning creations by Saunders, Kirchhoff and Erdem.

The Shop at Bluebird genuinely is one of the most wonderful spaces in London and the beautiful exhibition is testament to the stores unique whimsical charm. Words can’t cover the visual delights of both the timeline and the shops incredible array of products; and it is the iconic images that capture the spaces grand historical message.
