There’s something wonderfully therapeutic about whiling away an hour or two (or three, in my case) in a little café somewhere simply watching the world go by. Many may do this just to pass the time, others to eat their lunch or drink their coffee in peace, but me? Well, I just love to be nosy.

I love to see what people are wearing and how they wear it as they walk past. What shoes they have paired with their outfit and what statement jewellery they have opted for. How they have experimented with colour and texture or stylishly interpreted traditional 9-5 attire. I sit and think how I would style something similar that I have in my wardrobe and for those few short hours I come away feeling incredibly inspired to try something different or add something new to my ever increasing wish list (and wardrobe.)

Even at the biannual fashion weeks seen in New York, Paris, London and Milan, we see page after page of the best street style – perhaps more so than many of the catwalk shows themselves these days. I think that collectively, people are starting to appreciate the beauty and true inspiration we get from street style: it’s attainable, quirky, daring and can always provoke a wonderful, and sometimes much needed, sense of creativity.

If you scroll through my multitude of  fashion-heavy Pinterest boards, many of the pictures are street style; pinned to spark a little boost of confidence on those ‘I have nothing to wear’ days or when I’m planning a much needed shopping trip.

Of course, it is inevitable that in our favourite global fashion capitals, the street style is perhaps a little more varied, fun and inspiring, but the truth is, we don’t need to travel far to see this beauty and feel that sartorial inspiration. After all, that really is the beauty of it: street style is everywhere.

You don’t even need a comfy spot in a trendy café sipping on a latte to do this either, but it might just help.
