aw

Although as I type this, it is a beautiful Sunday afternoon with the blazing sun making a much-welcomed appearance over the Bank Holiday weekend, I can’t help but think ahead to the AW trends.

With the temperature creeping up to the mid-twenties over the past few days, it certainly seems premature to be dreaming of chunky knit sweaters and ankle boots, but the high-street, as ever, is enticing us in with autumnal hues and perfect layering pieces for the inevitable cold and blustery weather that lies ahead.

We welcome back many familiar trends year on year, and this season is certainly no different, but with each season comes new surprises and sartorial trends to keep an eye out for. During the winter months of 2016 and early 2017, we said hello to over-the-knee boots, fluted sleeves and shearling jackets.

So, with the darker evenings and colder weather fast approaching, I thought I’d run through a few of the more wearable A/W trends that I’m looking forward to adding to my – increasingly well-stocked – wardrobe:

Textures

I think this has to be my favourite trend year on year. With faux fur, sequins, embroidery, tassels and feathers in abundance, it helps to showcase what fashion is really all about: fun.

Tights

Rather than pulling on your standard black or grey tights, why not try something a little bolder? Metallic, glitzy and oh so colourful – the faithful pair of tights has had a bit of a makeover this season.

Chunky Knits & Midi Skirts

Seen on the catwalks of Dior and Balenciaga, this popular seasonal trend is ideal for making the most out of our favourite summer midis that we’re not quite ready to store away.

Periwinkle Blue

Somewhere on the colour spectrum between Cobalt and Sky Blue, lies this beautifully muted tone that would work perfectly for a late summer wedding outfit.

Red To Toe

From Periwinkle Blue to dark reds and deep scarlets, red has been the colour of the summer season, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down as we move into autumn.

The Maxi Bag

From mini to maxi, the perfectly-sized clutch we saw so much of over the summer months has been replaced with the big, over-sized, everything-except-the-kitchen-sink, version!
