As I get older the more I want to make stuff: small stuff, big stuff, home stuff, clothes stuff, pointless stuff, just stuff. Not that I’m any good at it and my patience usually only allows me to complete half a project at a time (something I’m working on) but the list of ‘stuff’ to make is endless and looks so easy to achieve. Now that our time won’t be spent laying in the sun and eating ice creams on benches anymore we have more time, in the comfort of our own homes, to make stuff, and lots of it.

Here are just a few simple but effective interior design DIY ideas that you could try to start with.

What a great idea! These would look so pretty hanging by a window against the natural light. And because the flowers don’t need to be anything big or extravagant you could just make a conscious effort to keep an eye out for little bloomers on your way back from work or you day out. Simply beautiful!

Rocks

Do you remember doing something similar to this in school? I remember having to choose a rock, any size we wanted, and painting it whichever way we wished. It was good fun then and I honestly believe it would still be fun now. All you need is a rock, some paint and a steady hand and away you go. These could be placed in a collection next to a plant, or at the bottom of a coffee table, in a large bowl as a feature piece, wherever you like.

Now this could be useful! If you have a stack of CD’s that you no longer need because everything is on your phone, or some sort of technical device, this is a great way to recycle those Now albums and turn them in to something gorgeous. Go careful when breaking the CD’s, though.

Twigs

At first I couldn’t decide if I loved this, or loathed it…I ended up in love. I’ve been known to eat an unhealthy amount of crèmes brûlées and have always wondered what I could do with the delicate glass dishes that seem far to useful to throw away. Now I need not wonder! I will collect some little twigs, get some tea lights and make these earthy looking candles. You could even paint the twigs different colours if you were feeling really artsy, either way it’s a great idea for little to no cost.
