happy

Everyone has their happy place. Whether it’s your childhood home, a certain park where you used to go as a child, a favourite holiday destination or a cosy cafe nestled away off the beaten track.

A happy place is simply somewhere that makes you feel joy and contentment – somewhere you can feel free from worry and the stresses of everyday life. With busy work schedules, hectic social lives and a feeling of always being on the go, sometimes we need somewhere to switch off and remember what’s important.

We are now living in an age where overtime is becoming the norm and Sunday’s are rarely a day of rest, not to mention the constant pressures of social media to showcase the busy lives and good times we’re having. With ‘me time’ becoming more and more of a rarity, it’s only when we come back around to Monday morning again, that we wish we’d have taken that extra hour in bed, or gone on a long meandering walk, to set ourselves up for the working week ahead.

Sometimes we realise it’s actually the little things that can help to set us straight again. A hot chocolate, long drive or discovering a new walk always seem to do the trick – or whiling away a few hours on Pinterest or watching Sex in the City if I’m feeling particularly lazy. Sometimes we forget to take a step back and realise that in fact, it’s okay to do nothing and focus on what makes us happy.

Driving down to the beach last night – in a fantastic moment of spontaneity I should add, although we didn’t actually get there until 9pm – we watched the sunset; and it was in this moment that I realised: this was my happy place.
