You’ve got to have been living under a rock if you haven’t noticed the wave of girl power that’s sweeping across the nation. Just when we thought feminism might just be another bandwagon that everyone wants to get involved with, true girl power has risen and taken the reigns of the modern age.
It may not be anything as sacrificial as the suffragettes, but women everywhere are voicing their opinions on equal pay, equal rights and finally slamming the body shaming that the media has shoved in our faces for so long. Only this past week Twitter has been in a frenzy with backlash against the Protein World adverts. And do you know what! Hell yes sisters, we are all beach body ready.
‘That’ Protein World Advert
Bringing in this wave of empowerment, women are sick of being brought down by petty adverts that play on their insecurities. No longer are we letting ourselves be just the pretty face, when deep down we are all so much more. This is a revolution for more than just our bodies, it’s for us as women to join hands and support each other and the accomplishments that we seek within the world. As modern day women we need to pave the way for the generations to come. It’s up to us to show the young ones that it’s ok to be who you are, say what you think and look the way you want to look. Of course there’s the trolls and the backlash that comes with the confidence, but let’s be honest, they hate us because they ain’t us!
Putting the world to rights is something we’ve always done rather well, so we should harness our power of logic and that mother nature instinct, and bring about the change we want to see in the world. And not just for the way we are physically seen, but for our voice. There’s been an incredible amount of strong minded women discussing the general election that’s just around the corner, and it feels so refreshing to read about the policies that are going to affect us as women!
Women of the World Unite
As many of these fabulous females have quite rightly pointed out, if more women voted, the dominant male politicians might just sit up and see that women care just as much about this country as the men. Perhaps in some cases even more so. If we’re going to shed blood, sweat and tears creating a better world for our younger soul sisters, hadn’t we better harness what our ancestors did for us too? Some of you may not believe in the system, and some of you may disagree with most of the policies, but change only comes in numbers, and no matter your opinion, it’s better to express it with a vote then complete silence.
Find your inner girl power ladies, and together let’s make our world rock. (Cue Aretha Franklin – Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves.)
