What to wear to an off-season wedding

As we start to say hello to the colder and more temperamental climes of autumn, it got me thinking about outfits; and more specifically, outfits when it comes to a special occasion.

September remains a popular month for weddings. Having just returned from one myself with another few already booked in for next year, what to wear remains an important question to be pondered. Will the weather hold out and remain beautiful with all-day sunshine, or will the heavens open and the temperatures drop?

We want to embrace the wedding season – whenever it may be – and plan ahead when it comes to outfits, and yet, much like most of the year, the British weather continues to dictate what we should and should not be wearing.

Perhaps you have an autumnal wedding to attend or are looking forward to a Christmas one – or perhaps you’re even starting to think ahead to next year – it’s always a good idea to cater for all weather eventualities. For wind, snow, sun or rain, there’s no need to worry, because both the high-street and high-end stores continue to provide a wealth of options should the weather not quite play ball.

If you’ve found the perfect dress, it is the accessories which can play a big part in helping you to stay dry, warm or both. From a faux fur stole, bolero, lace gloves to nude tights or a smart winter coat, a wedding guest outfit needn’t be your typical dress and heels option that we associate more with in summer. It’s also important to consider where both the ceremony and reception will be taking place. If there’s little chance of you heading outside then a simple coat or jacket to get you between venues will more than suffice.

If the forecast leading up to the big day isn’t looking so hopeful then a statement coat or jacket is a brilliant way to combat sartorial indecision. Here are a few of my favourites for off-season wedding invites:
