This season, there is one colour I am obsessing over. No it’s not pastel pink, nor baby yellow or spring green, but yes it does fall into the ever-growing pastel palette. Duck egg blue is a colour I would normally associate with quaint interiors and the great British bake off, but this spring summer it’s become a colour that has given our staple wardrobe favourites a new life.
Take Zara’s incredible new faux leather jacket. As seen in nearly every high street Zara store window and recently worn by Made In Chelsea star Louise Thompson, this gorgeous light jacket gives us the rocky edge of a traditional leather jacket while in keeping with the demand for purity and freshness as we enjoy the warmer seasons.
Our royal beauty Kate Middleton is also a great ambassador of this pretty blue. In 2013, she wore a Jenny Packham dress during her Jubilee tour of Malaysia and stepped out in a duck egg blue Emilia Wickstead dress for an Art Room event at The National Portrait Gallery. If Kate loves it, we all love it!
More recently, actress Gemma Arterton championed this tone of blue at the Olivier Awards. Her fashion choice was highly applauded, and Gemma was recognised as one of the best dressed on the night.
Blue is calming, reassuring and is becoming increasingly popular within modern style choices. Often associated with air and water, duck egg blue creates a soothing and relaxing aura, making the feminine silhouette one of elegance and class. I’ll keep this short and sweet – if there is one thing you need this summer, make it Zara’s faux leather blue jacket.
