In a recent post I started talking about some of the trends we can expect to be seeing for the A/W season ahead. With the nights drawing in, the days growing colder and the leaves already starting to fall, it feels as though autumn is well and truly here to stay.
One trend which reappears year after year and always remains a firm favourite amongst bloggers, stylists and the fashion conscious, is textures: faux furs, beautiful embroidered pieces, sequins and metallics. While not a texture per se, the bronze, silver and gold metallics made a much-welcomed appearance on the catwalks earlier this year as a trend to watch out for, and the high-street has already started to follow suit with an abundance of shiny items on offer.
While many may subconsciously think the metallics trend will have them looking like a lost and lonely spaceman or even the Tin-man from The Wizard of Oz, it’s really not about dressing it head-to-toe. While many of the catwalk looks adorned their models in lavishly shiny silvers and fluorescent metallic tones, this trend is best worn in moderation.
Lemaire showcased this wonderfully, pairing gun metal-coloured trousers with a simple tailored navy over-coat, while Bottega Veneta unveiled their stunning – and wearable – floor-length gowns. Jil Sander introduced us to the highly covetable and autumnal rose gold-toned metallics with slinky 1930s-inspired dresses and an oversized trench-coat.
Drawing on these looks that we saw on the catwalks back in spring for A/W17, I looked to the high-street and high-end stores for inspiration on how to incorporate this trend into your daily wardrobe now autumn’s arrived. From midi skirts to jackets, loafers to earrings, it’s an easy trend to dabble in or make full use of, dare I say it, as we venture into the festive season.
