We have finally had our first nervous glimpse of sunshine this year. Yes it was brief and yes it was still just a stiff breeze away from raising goosebumps, but nevertheless it has got us thinking about summer; mostly how hugely unprepared we all are after the longest winter in living memory. Whilst beachwear might seem like a distant memory, start investing early and you can snap up the best pieces around.

This year is all about the one piece, previously relegated to the body conscious or older women; one-pieces have been steadily making a comeback over the last couple of years and if it is good enough for the likes of Rihanna, then it is good enough for us here at Maggie Semple Ltd. Don’t start throwing out your bikinis just yet. If you are a sun worshipper and will be flat out on a sun lounger for the majority of your holiday then, to avoid dodgy tan lines, the two-piece is still the way to go. But if you want to make an impact poolside, this year it can only be the swimsuit.

Let’s be clear, we are not talking a boring old black one piece that would have looked appropriate in the 1920’s; swimsuits this year are much more glamorous.  Here is just a few of the styles to choose from:

Graphic Prints

Pattern one piece swimsuits
(Mara Hoffman £199, Etro £195, Mara Hoffman £205)

Definitely not for poolside wallflowers, this one-piece will get you noticed. Bright, flowers, graphics prints, animal faces; the louder the better.

Taking the Plunge

Plunge line swimsuits(Gucci £450 ,Mission £320, Mara Hoffman £260)

Deep plunge swimsuits are not for the faint hearted or for the big bosomed. Top heavy girls might want to avoid, but if you are petite this sexy swimsuit is perfect for propping up the pool bar.

Hollywood Glamour

Old hollywood one piece swimsuits
(Emilio Pucci £361, La Perla £368Miu Miu £145)

Who doesn’t love Marilyn? Go old school Hollywood glamour with a ruched one-piece. Only to be accessorised with big sunglasses, bigger hat and your own personal waiter.

Sporty

Sporty one piece swimwear

(Lisa Marie Fernandez £380, Beth Richards £250, Lisa Marie Fernandez £355)

For those who prefer to be in the pool rather than beside it go for something sporty to avoid swimwear malfunctions. Sporty doesn’t have to be boring, chose a neon colour with peek-a-boo mesh panels to avoid looking like an Olympics wannabe.
