It is that time of year again: a vital and integral aspect of the annual fashion calendar. A time for seasoned and debut designers to showcase their vision and collections for the S/S18 season.

Although we are about to enter into the dark and blustery cold winter months, for the next few weeks expect to be greeted with spring hues and new summer trends, as we are given a welcoming preview into what we can expect to be wearing as we venture into next year.

As always – although I do love to see the beautiful fabrics and flamboyant, intricate designs created by Karl Lagerfeld or Erdem – I am always drawn to the streets when it comes to Fashion Week. An innate sense of curiosity blended with a perennial love for street style always leads me into scouring articles, picture galleries and editorials for the city girls snapped walking to or from a catwalk show.

Perhaps it is because their style is more accessible, more creative and universal, that makes them look so effortless and attainable. Much like the catwalk shows, you have to dabble in and out, of course not every look or picture will be to your liking or suit your personal style, but it’s important to take out and remember the aspects you do like – how they’ve styled a summer dress for autumn or what they’ve paired with this season’s popular culottes.

While the designer shows provide us with a trailer to the trends and styles many of us will be adopting as we say hello to the spring months in 2018, what we are seeing captured on the streets of New York, London, Milan and Paris now, is how the trends from last year’s shows are being incorporated into everyday dressing for autumn.

New York is often cited for its cosmopolitan and trendy street style, it’s less romantic than London but perhaps more colourful than Paris. I’ve selected just a few of the most covetable looks reigning the streets of this great city – from oversized suits to plenty of plaid and vibrant hues.
