Ladies, it’s time to dust off those platforms, rock the pigtails and get your girl power ready because the Spice Girls are rumoured to be returning for a world tour next year to celebrate the band’s 20th anniversary. Now for those of you too young to understand, take a seat and let the super-fans show you how it’s done. Kids these days know nothing of the excitement and struggle fans had in the early 90’s. We couldn’t download music as you can today. We spent our days forever rewinding cassette tapes, and carrying bulky CD Walkmans was the bane of our life.

With the average Spice Girl fan now in their late 20s early 30s a reunion tour may seem a little crazy, but after Take That, S Club 7, and The Big Reunion’s extremely successful tours I’m not the only one that’s sure women everywhere are more than ready to ‘zig-a-zig-ah!’ After all, they still hold the record for best selling album by a female group in history for their debut album Spice which sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

I know this isn’t their first reunion and for some it may seem like old news after a tour in 2007, as well as performing a medley of Spice Up Your Life and Wannabe for the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, but just imagine the stage production and costume design that could be produced today for an anniversary tour. Your inner teen will quite literally explode with excitement!

For many the girls were more than just a band. The Spice Girls stood for Feminism and have long been a icons of British culture, remaining one of the most referenced in popular media. For now the girls are playing coy, joking on social media and leaving questions unanswered. “Woke up this morning wondering whether I need to start practising my backflips???!!!” Teased Mel C, aka Sporty Spice on Twitter. Don’t play with our hearts like that Mel, who do you think you are? But there’s no smoke without fire and would their management really turn down the opportunity to cash-in? I think not, especially since it is so rare that a girl band creates such a frenzy. If one things for sure girl power is a force to be reckoned with, so keep calm, wait for the tickets, and Say You’ll Be There.
