App of the year Snapchat has taken the digital world by storm becoming social media trailblazers with fun photo filters, 24 hour long ‘stories’ and camera roll style ‘memories’ catalogue. But putting them at the forefront of emerging digital supremacy is their latest venture, the all new Snapchat Spectacles.

Wearable tech has been a tricky subject for some time now, with multiple brands failing to get it right time and time again, with the only notable products being overpriced Apple watches and Fitbits giving inaccurate data. However, Snapchat’s sunglasses with a built-in camera are looking to be a real contender which has the potential to fit nicely into our ever-merging virtual and real worlds.
The Snapchat Spectacle camera takes footage from your perspective in 10 second bursts, then the wireless connection uploads it to your Snapchat account and you can place them back into their case to charge.
It’s a simple idea, and to be honest quite a novel one, but if the hype surrounding Snapchat Spectacles is anything to go by then these glasses have great potential for the future.
Launching in only a handful of locations so far, Spectacles are the hottest item to own right now with hundreds of hopefuls tracking down ‘Snapbots’ (the brightly coloured Spectacle vending machines) in an attempt to be a part of the digital elite.
If, however you aren’t one of the lucky ones, you can buy them from private sellers on EBay, that is of course if you have a spare £600…
With the Snapbots popping up in just 3 locations in the US so far and with only 1 store having opened in New York this week, it’s likely to take some time before we start to see them in Europe, but when they do, make like Jon Snow and brace yourself, because Snapchat is coming!
