Summer is the time for sunshine, garden parties and holidays and this often means getting the pins out. During this season, the streets become a catwalk as we all show off our summer wardrobes, donning the latest styles and trends. When the air is warm and our thick winter coats find their place back on the coat hanger, a skirt seems like a great choice. However, this summer, tailored shorts are the new favourite on both the catwalks, the streets and in the workplace.

Shorts were traditionally found in the fashion scene on men. Owing to the Great British military, shorts were worn by men for both work and leisure activities; it wasn’t until the early 1900s that shorts became popular and deemed acceptable on women. This is quite far from the story of today. Shorts are one of the most popular summer essentials, providing both glamour and comfort at the same time.

Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe showed how shorts could be worn to show their individual style. Audrey fashioned the preppy look with her classy white sailor shorts, whilst Marilyn teamed them with high heels for a more glamorous edge. The days where shorts were considered a uniform item were behind and just like Marilyn and Audrey, women everywhere were indulging in a pair.

This summer, shorts are a hit, especially in the workplace. City shorts, which are tailored yet chic, come with higher waists and suitable lengths, offering both sophistication and comfort making them the perfect office attire. With so many different styles, cuts and shapes available, you cannot have enough pairs. So if you’re looking for an investment piece of clothing for when the sun glows, look no further than a classic pair of shorts.
