The UK’s love for coffee has reached the point of outgrowing the lifeless, sales driven service offered by high street juggernauts such as Starbucks and Costa. Consumers are now on the hunt for artisan cafes and independent roasters to quench their caffeine addiction, and feed their social media timelines with aesthetically pleasing photographs.
Identifying a need for the unique, charismatic and ethical aspects of the new found café culture, small coffee businesses are on the rise. Nowadays you will struggle to walk down a high streets in the UK without stumbling across a trendy ‘one off’ coffeehouse. However, there is one that stands out for me in particular in recent times. Tucked away on an ordinary industrial estate in tiny Merrow, Guildford you’ll find a hidden wonderland of coffee from around the world being roasted to order every day.
Welcome to Redber Coffee, a roasters that feels like a sweet shop for adults with it’s hessian sacks full of raw, green coffee beans waiting patiently for the roaster, long dark wooden shelves stacked high with countless tubs of fresh coffee, and the familiar sound of the whirring of an espresso machine are just a few of the things you will notice when you step inside.
Born from humble beginnings, Redber Coffee was founded in 2012 by Petra and Graham, who want to inspire the UK to understand and enjoy quality coffee. The past four years have seen Redber grow from strength to strength; employing local people, expanding their online store and investing in a brand new (very large) Coffee-Tech Ghibli roasting machine, all so that they can keep up with demand for their delicious coffee.
The Redber team are as diverse as their collection of coffees and they pride themselves on being the go-to for both coffee novices and professionals alike. Whether it’s roasting a 250g bag of beans for a local, or fulfilling a 10kg order for a café, for Redber it’s all about the passion.
You can find Redber at Merrow Depot to experience the coffee and hand pick the beans yourself, or you can buy their coffee and products online to have them delivered straight to your door!
P.S They even offer a coffee subscription service, sending you your favourite types of coffee every month – fuss free caffeine, hallelujah! Great to buy as a gift for a loved one, or even just treat yourself…you deserve it.
