What do you do?
Since about a year I’ve been focussing on my blog full-time, it’s been a high passion of mine, a hobby, that recently turned into being my occupation.
What are your interests?
Besides fashion, stating the obvious here, I love traveling. I’m very lucky to have the freedom to move around whenever and wherever, as long as it suits my schedule and wallet. I take a lot of inspiration out of that too. Besides that, I love cooking and baking, but unfortunately our tiny kitchen here in Amsterdam doesn’t allow me to properly do that as I would like to.
What motivates you every day?
The fact that I do what I like and like what I do. I’m my own boss, which also implies that work never stops. It’s more a lifestyle than a job. I just really like fashion, and working around that every single day. Creating my own job out of nothing and having all the freedom that comes with that. And when I get lovely comments and support on a daily basis, I definitely know what I’m doing it for. I love what I do and love it that a growing base of people seem to like it to!
Do you have a treasured garment, an item that you cannot part with?
Besides my iPhone (my everything), I guess that would be my Wang bag. I got it from my boyfriend for my birthday last year and we haven’t been apart ever since. A statement bag just upgrades every single outfit.
What style advice would you give?
Feel comfortable in what you wear, always make it you. Take trends and fashion into account, but always love what you’re wearing. That self-confidence makes you you, and thus unique.
Whose wardrobe would you like to steal for a day?
If I could raid a closet, I would raid Emmanuelle Alt’s closet. So simple, so chic. Always sophisticated without overdoing it. That’s my kind of styling!
Where do you see yourself in ten years time?
If there’s something I’ve learned over the past year is that you cannot plan ahead too much. You never know where life is gonna take you and how things will turn out to be. I definitely want to keep on developing myself and hopefully expand my field of conduct somewhat and start doing more and more of what I like. I obviously, in the first place hope to be healthy and happy, because those two are the only two things that really matter in life. A few years ago I decided to only do what I really like to do, hence my masters in American History and starting a fashion blog. Logical? No, but definitely where my heart is.
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
Creating my own job out of practically nothing but a passion. Being able to take care of myself financially, without going to the office every single day – having a 9-5 job (nothing wrong with that, but just not me). I never imagined myself being able to do what I do now, so that’s definitely something. Having the confidence to throw myself into the deep every once in a while, seeing where life is gonna take me.
Which trend do you see making a return for 2014?
I have the feeling pastels are gonna be really big again. The softer tones, after having all the neon for a few years. And I love that, because I’m not the color wearing girl – so this is a big step ahead for me already!
What would you like to be remembered for?
For being confident, happy, healthy, for someone being able to do what I really wanted to, for someone that worked really hard to get where I am, and someone who travelled the world. I want to keep on learning, keep on loving.
