The city of Cannes lies in the French Riviera and is the stylish home to the annual Cannes Film Festival. The infamous event which brings celebrities and stars from all over the world, takes over Cannes for the week and becomes a media spectacle. With everyone eager to see what trends are being modelled on the red carpet and who will be taking home awards, fashion and the Cannes Film Festival go hand in hand. For this reason it was very unfortunate I wasn’t to be holidaying in this beautiful city during the festival, however that didn’t stop me from spending a day along the Promenade de la Croisette, a stretch which hosts many of the events and activities during this spectacular event.

The Promenade de la Croisette is 2 kilometres of pure chic, French style. With hotels harking back to the Belle Epoque period, the street champions both French history and the country’s impeccable taste for all things stylish, modern and on trend. Lined with many prestigious shops including the likes of Dior and Chanel, fashionista’s from all over the world can have an absolute field day.

As with any shopping trip comes a much needed cocktail break. Lounging in the comfortable seats of one of La Croisette’s cafés, overlooking the overwhelming Mediterranean sea, I discovered this street was perfect for spying sensational street styles. The promenade was a catwalk for wedges, oversized bags, sunglasses and sun dresses. The women of Cannes showed how well they can dress, wearing practical clothing that welcomed the back-warming sun rays whilst looking timelessly chic. The only way one can describe the Promenade de la Croisette is as the French say, “Où se passe la mode” – “where fashion happens”.
