With a client list including Kate Beckinsale, Colin Firth and Naomi Campbell, you may wonder why you haven’t heard of Sophie Harley. The bespoke jewellery designer, who has been creating beautifully crafted pieces for over 20 years, prefers to let her jewellery do the talking, but we think it’s time she got the recognition she deserves.

Sophie’s jewellery is an alluring mix of glamour, drama and whimsy. In her Dreamers collection fragments of a sleeping Etruscan princess are hidden amongst gems and charms on bracelets and necklaces and peeking out from earrings. Her unique, contemporary range is hand crafted, using ancient symbols as inspiration and her signature flying heart image to create timeless yet modern statement jewellery. Each design feels like it comes with its own piece of history and will be as relevant in fifty years time as it is now.

Sophie got her MA in jewellery design at The Royal College of Art and is now based near Portobello Road, West London. In her newly refurbished studio you can browse the collections which include: an extensive women’s range, engagement and wedding jewellery, a men’s range and Little Treasures, which is a playful, charm based jewellery collection aimed as keepsakes for children but coveted by adults too.

Whilst you may not have known her name, many of you may recognise Sophie’s most famous piece, The Algerian Loveknot Necklace which was commissioned especially for the James Bond film, Casino Royale. Worn by Eva Green’s character Vesper Lynd throughout the film, the stunning piece is made of twisted gold and silver rings and multi layered chains.

In her extensive career, Sophie has worked on many collaborations including a partnership with Cred, a fair trade jeweller, to create a gorgeous ethical collection in 2009. The beautiful stones and hammered textured gold used in the collection were all ethical sourced. At a time when fashion is developing a conscious, it goes to show that you don’t need to compromise style, quality or beauty in order to go green.

Purchasing Sophie Harley jewellery is like buying a piece of a story and if you want to create your own story you can commission and design your very own unique piece at Sophie’s studio. And if that’s good enough for 007, it’s good enough for me.
