This year’s much anticipated Met Gala took place last night and celebrated the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s ‘Manus x Machina exhibition’. Exploring the relationship between clothes created by hand versus the machine, fashions biggest names stepped out in other worldly creations featuring flurries of futuristic silvers and lustrous tones. Robotic metallic, mirrored detailing and slicked back hair was the general consensus for the evening’s artificial intelligence chic, but while some got it bang on others missed horribly. Here is our worst and best dressed.
Worst Dressed…
Zayn Malik

I can’t help but wish Zayn Malik had left his Versace suit unscathed. The futuristic theme was lost on the ex-One Direction member who instead channelled a Sir Lancelot look opting to wear the sleeves of a suit of armour which left him looking more medieval than space-age.
Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga showed up in what can only be described as an old tour revived costume from back in the day. Sporting tacky platform boots, fishnet tights and a back combed mullet do, the look lent itself to a dated throwback try hard, rather than a chic futuristic queen.
Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift in Louis Vuitton looked like a snake who had shed half of her scaly skin. The space age mini missed with its tired pleats and cut outs it erred on the cheap side. Paired with bondage style knee high shoes, a gothic pout and icy bleached out hair we were left wondering that perhaps we do go out of style after all Miss Swift.
Madonna

This is one look we wish we could all unsee immediately. Dressed (if that’s what you can call it) in Givenchy, Madonna opted for a sort of scary bondage empress trussed up in what resembled black bandages and moth balled lace showing more of the 57 year old then anyone cared to see. If this is Madonna’s view into the future, then we don’t want to be any part of it.
Best Dressed…

The red carpet sported many great looks, Cindy Crawford, The Jenner sisters and Alexa Chung were amongst those who got it right, but it is Claire Danes that we applaud.

While others went grungy, flesh exposed and even scary, Dane’s kept it delicate and stunning. The spectacular Cinderella-esque Zac Posen gown was the most jaw-dropping look of the night. Delicate, voluminous and striking, the power blue creation only got better once Danes stepped foot inside the Gala as her gown glowed in the dark and sparkled in the night. Both fashion critics and those following the event on social media agreed that not only did Claire Danes and designer Zac Posen perfectly interpret the Gala’s theme of futuristic, technology-incorporated fashion, but with her incredible, glistening gown, they provided the night’s wow factor.
