I’ve no doubt mentioned before my love for street style. The real, unfiltered and authentic outfits we see every day. People walking to work, to college, heading out for a day of shopping or meeting friends for lunch. It is these outfits which always inspire me. Push me to try something different or pick up something similar. It is the texture, the vibrancy, the use of neutrals or simplicity which grabs my attention. We are all so wonderfully different that fashion inevitably becomes a beautiful form of self-expression.
This self-expression then is never felt more so than at London Fashion Week. Off the runway rather than on it. It is those attending the shows and exhibitions, or even those who look so effortlessly stylish that they are photographed anyway. We see an eclectic mix of simplicity and boldness. Those trying to make a statement and others wearing their everyday uniform. It’s fascinating to see how people dress for the season – while we’re looking at the trends for autumn and winter on the runways – we are seeing the most popular ones for spring and summer here on the streets of London. We are given front row seats to the best colours to wear, what footwear people are putting on and how we layer for the season ahead.
This year was no exception then. We saw colour – and lots of it – together with bold accessories and plenty of texture. Lilac, khaki and camel were firm favourites, giving us an insight into the spring colours to be worn this season. Check and animal print, with a spot of plaid, continue to reign highly, with masculine-fitted outwear a popular choice for many of those photographed. Pops of green and rust also shined through, while many monochromatic outfits showed us why this continues to be such a popular combination.
It was an eclectic mix then – one that beautifully signifies the diversity and creativity of London’s fashion scene.
